Obsessed with this crazy idea, Russian engineer Pyotr Garin steals the latest invention – a laser cannon of unprecedented destructive power – from his mentor. In order to gain the support of American chemical king and billionaire Rolling, Garin, through deception, blackmail, and threats, achieves his goal and gets an entire island at his disposal, on which he builds a giant hyperboloid.
Ultimately, the scientific invention that promised brilliant prospects and world domination became a curse for Garin and turned the talented scientist into an outcast and madman in the eyes of society.
The novel "The Hyperboloid of Engineer Garin," aimed at middle and high school students, has been reissued multiple times and adapted for film.
