This collection includes works written by Annie Besant (1847–1933) — a talented writer, president of the Theosophical Society, and student and follower of H. P. Blavatsky: 1) "The Teaching of the Heart" (printed according to the publication of the Russian... Theosophical Society, St. Petersburg, 1914); 2) "The Path of Discipleship. Five Lectures Delivered at Adyar in 1895" (translated from English by A. A. Kamenskaya (1867–1952)); 3) "The Path to Initiation" and 4) "The Perfect Man".
These works speak of the long and arduous path of disciples ascending to spiritual heights. They narrate about Karma Yoga, the purification of the soul and body, control over thoughts, meditation, trials, and initiations. They also discuss the methods of the science of the future and possible directions and trends in the development of human civilization.
The author tells the reader: "I will try to explain how an ordinary person, having family and social responsibilities and compelled to participate in various activities of life, can, despite this, prepare themselves for unity, fusion, and take the first steps on the path leading to the One".
