Anatoly Fyodorovich Koni (1844–1927) was a famous Russian lawyer, statesman, and public figure, as well as a writer. Throughout his life, he was driven by the desire to implement the ideas of judicial reform, which began in Russia in 1864... (in particular, it was based on the principles of procedural independence of judges, a unified court for all estates, publicity of judicial proceedings, etc.). In his old age, he wrote: "I lived my life in such a way that I have nothing to be ashamed of... I loved my people, my country, and served them as best as I could." Throughout his professional career, Anatoly Fyodorovich Koni held various positions in the Russian judicial system, including some of the highest: he was the prosecutor of the St. Petersburg District Court, the vice-director of the department of the Ministry of Justice, and the chief prosecutor of the Criminal Cassation Department of the Senate. He oversaw investigations into complex, intricate cases and acted as a prosecutor in the most serious cases. A.F.
