We present to you a unique anthology of tales that encompass all facets of the authentic and vibrant Tatar folklore. This luxurious edition gathers the best examples of folk art from the Volga, Siberian, Mountain, and Crimean Tatars.
Forty-two tales included in this book were recorded in the 19th - early 20th century from the words of folk storytellers by folklorists and ethnographers, as well as school teachers and representatives of the national intelligentsia, and later translated, adapted for children's reading, and artistically designed by remarkable translators and linguists P. A. Polyakov, V. N. Kharuzina, E. Z. Baranov, V. A. Gatsuk, S. D. Kozyubinsky, V. Kh. Kondaraki, and others.
Most of these tales are being published in Russia for the first time in almost a century and a half, and in the form of a unified collection, illustrated with works of Tatar and world painting, they have never been printed before.
