The main character of the trilogy "In the Night of the Great Tide" moves in dreams to strange, semi-fantastic worlds, having turned into a twelve-year-old boy. In one of these worlds, in an ancient half-ruined fortress, he meets the trumpeter... Valery and Brother, Valery's younger brother. The boys need to return here, to this same fortress, but five hundred years earlier. Otherwise, in the battle they once fought in, the enemy will win and destroy their hometown. In the next transition from world to world, our hero, in alliance with the same Valery and Brother, engages in a duel with the Great Chancellor, a dictator who pits the inhabitants of the fortress city against each other and has ordered the killing of children in the name of the supposedly "predestined future." And from the deserted, dead world, where the boys have been once again, they are helped to escape by Yashka — the eternal pearl, a living crystal, a drop of star rain. Like Seryozhka, Faddeyka, the hero of the "Orange Portrait with Speckles," he wanders between two worlds — Earth and Mars. Here, on Earth, he is an ordinary boy, a dreamer and a fantasist. There, on Mars, he is a wise prince, dedicating all his strength to putting an end to the senseless slaughter waged by the local tribes against each other, thereby saving the planet from destruction.
