Jacques Nicolas Augustin Thierry, a renowned French historian, journalist, and public figure of the 19th century, was able to reflect the most relevant trends in historical science of that time in his works, becoming an inspirer of several historical directions:... the history of class and estate struggle; the history of peoples, which is revealed through traditions and folklore; the history of the ordinary person, and so on. All these directions after O. Thierry would become the foundation of the largest historical schools. The story offered to you, authored by him about the Norman conquest of England, was first published in Russia in 1859 in the edition of A. A. Kraevsky and has been repeatedly reissued up to 1904.
In the new edition, the original translation in the edition of A. A. Kraevsky has been revised in accordance with the norms of modern Russian language and supplemented according to the original French edition "Conquete de l'Angleterre par les Normands" of 1830 by historian V. E. Senichev.
