The Martian Chronicles

In different years, expeditions are sent to Mars, spacecraft land in different parts of the planet, and crews encounter completely different inhabitants of this planet. Some of the arriving Earthlings are immediately killed - just in case, some find themselves in an illusion of their past life on Earth, and some try to befriend the natives. In Bradbury's book, Earthlings strive to go to Mars for various reasons: some seek solitude, others seek wealth, but all try to leave Earth not because Mars is good, but because Earth is bad.
