Auguste Choisy 1841–1909 — a French engineer, architectural historian, and construction technician. He dedicated most of his life to studying and teaching architecture. His most significant work is A History of Architecture, which was published in 1899. The first Russian translation, performed by architect N. S. Kurdyukov, appeared in 1910. For many years, this work served as one of the main textbooks for architectural education. The complete edition in two volumes is a collection of studies on the history of architecture carried out during the 19th century by several major scholars, covering the period from prehistoric times to the Renaissance. This book has deservedly enjoyed popularity for several decades among both professional architects and builders, as well as amateurs interested in architecture. It is characterized by exemplary clarity and precision in the presentation of the constructive aspect.
