"The Sandman" – a fairy tale novella by the German Romantic writer Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann, first published in 1816 and became one of the author's most popular works.
The story describes the fate of a young man named Nathaniel, who descends into madness due to traumatic childhood memories. The main question remains unanswered – whether he became a victim of a mystical intrigue or succumbed to delusions produced by his own imagination…
The text of the work is adapted for levels B1-B2 (for those continuing to study German at an intermediate level) and is accompanied by comments. After the story, exercises with answers are provided. At the end of the book – a dictionary of the vocabulary used, facilitating reading.
