Selected Speeches

The basis of this collection consists of the political speeches of Demosthenes, particularly those directed against Philip of Macedon. Among them, a unique standard of the vigorous and expressive Demosthenic style is the cycle of three classical Olynthian speeches, delivered on the occasion of the Macedonian army's campaign against the Greek polis of Olynthos. The collection also includes other speeches by Demosthenes, dedicated not only to foreign but also to domestic politics of Athens, as well as social and ethical issues.
