Where Are You Going

A classic of Polish literature, an honorary academician of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Sciences, Henryk Sienkiewicz was a brilliant historical novelist. Like Hugo, Dumas, and Tolstoy, he managed to describe the great events of bygone eras, paying attention to... the personality of the individual – the creator of these events.
In 1905, Sienkiewicz was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature "For outstanding merits in the field of epic literature." «Where Are You Going» – his most famous novel, the action of which takes place during the last four years of Nero's reign (64 - 68 AD), at the time of the establishment of Christianity and the first deeds of the apostles. Against the backdrop of historical events that forever changed the face of Western civilization, Sienkiewicz tells the tragic story of a Roman aristocrat's love for a Christian woman persecuted by the authorities.
The novel «Where Are You Going» was first published with illustrations by the remarkable Czech artist Venceslaus Černý.
