Russia and Europe

The essay of the outstanding Russian sociologist and naturalist N.Ya. Danilevsky "Russia and Europe" (1868), along with the works of O. Spengler and A. Toynbee, laid the foundations of the civilizational approach to the development of society. An undeniable achievement of the author can be considered the theory of cultural-historical types he proposed, two of which - Slavic and German-Roman - upon closer examination turn out to be eternally opposed to each other. Underrated during Danilevsky's lifetime, perceived by many as a "literary curiosity", this book has experienced a second birth and is rightly considered an important milestone in the development of sociology and geopolitics.
