Legends and Myths of Ancient Greece and Rome. What the Ancient Greeks and Romans Told About Their Gods and Heroes
The collection of Russian historian and educator Nikolai Albertovich Kun (1877–1940) includes the original text of his book "What the Ancient Greeks and Romans Told About Their Gods and Heroes." The book retells ancient Greek myths and the epic poems...
"Iliad" and "Odyssey" by Homer, "Theogony" by Hesiod, "Argonautica" by Apollonius of Rhodes, tragedies of Athenian playwrights of the 5th century BC Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, and many other works by ancient Greek and Roman authors in beautiful Russian language. Moreover, Kun's retelling of ancient mythology is so captivating that it resembles an ancient Greek bard rather than a Russian scholar. After Kun's death, the editors shortened his book in 1954 and gave it a new title "Legends and Myths of Ancient Greece." In this altered form, it has been published in recent decades. The restored original text is illustrated with drawings selected by Kun himself. A continuation of this book is also published – "Eastern Cults in the Roman Empire," illustrated by the publishing house's editorial staff.
