This book is an adaptation of the novel «The Last of the Mohicans» by the famous American writer James Fenimore Cooper (1789 – 1851), whose works gained immense popularity both in the USA and Europe. The action of the novel... takes place during the colonial wars in North America. Some Indian tribes are almost completely exterminated. The beauties Cora and Alice, Major Heyward, the brave hunter Hawkeye, and their valiant friends Chingachgook and Uncas must overcome many obstacles and dangers on the way to their goal - the British fort William Henry, where the girls' father awaits them. At the end of the book, Uncas dies in a futile attempt to save Cora, the elder daughter, leaving his father Chingachgook as the last of the Mohicans. Each chapter includes comments and translations of difficult words and expressions, as well as exercises aimed at checking comprehension of the text, practicing vocabulary and grammatical constructions, and developing oral speech. The manual is addressed to students in grades 5-7 of secondary schools, lyceums, and gymnasiums, as well as to a wide audience studying English independently.
