A Hero of Our Time

Mikhail Yurievich Lermontov (1814-1841) is one of the most significant poets of 19th century Russian literature. The combination of simplicity and elevation, naturalness and originality distinguishes the hand of a master, and his ability to objectively portray the characters of heroes, revealing one character through the perception of another, continues to amaze both readers and critics to this day. The famous novel "A Hero of Our Time" tells the story of the remarkable fate of a superfluous social man, talented but doomed not to be happy due to the very circumstances of his birth, upbringing, and belonging to a certain circle.
