"Bang! Duel" – is a dueling card board game in the well-known western series "Bang". Yes, now it's a game for only two players, but with fresh mechanics and new rules. The setting, overall design style, and some familiar and...
most beloved cards from previous editions remain unchanged. The game itself shines in completely new colors before us.
In this version, you can take on the role of a sheriff or a gang leader and assemble a team of the most renowned gunslingers – names like Django or Buffalo Bill will certainly delight fans of westerns. The gaming scene represents a duel between two groups – lawmen and outlaws. The smallest possible group can consist of four members, but in actual combat, only two are on your side – one attacking and the other covering his partner. Throughout the game, anything can happen: guns and rifles fire in all directions, dynamite explodes, hats are flung about by bullets, and pieces of wood fly off from barrel cover. And heaven help you if it comes to a Gatling gun or an Indian attack…
How to play?
The player controlling the lawmen group goes first. Each player starts with their unique deck of cards, but when it runs out, both players' decks are shuffled together, and players may receive the opponent's cards, making the gameplay even more interesting. As mentioned above, you must first form your squad with at least four shooters. After that, you need to choose who will take the active position and who will cover his comrade. The remaining shooters do not participate in the shootout for now. A player's turn always consists of three sequential phases:
Draw – in this simple phase, you draw two cards from the top of your personal deck
Play cards and move the token – in this phase, you attack, weaken the opponent, strengthen your shooters, and perform other actions using card plays. As usual, you can only play one "Bang!" card. Action cards cannot be played on the opposing cover shooter. Also in this phase, you can swap your shooters, but only once per phase. It is important that character abilities only apply to the active shooter, although there are exceptions.
Discard – in this phase, you count the cards in your hand and can keep as many as the health points of the active shooter. But the minimum number of cards in hand is two; you do not need to discard down to one.
Then the turn passes to the second player. This continues for the entire game until a winner is determined. You will need to strategically play cards and carefully distribute weapons, accurately calculate the abilities of enemy and friendly characters, timely swap out the wounded, and anticipate the moment when it's best to spend your shot cards – in general, engage in true western management.
Who won?
A player loses at the moment they lose their last character, meaning their health drops to zero due to wounds received. When any player has only one shooter left, the Reload rule for special cards activates, allowing them to discard a card but draw another in exchange. The length of the game depends on the number of characters, which by the basic rules should be four on each side.
