By this time, "Notes from the House of the Dead," "Notes from Underground," "Crime and Punishment," "The Idiot," and other masterpieces had already been written, yet Dostoevsky still felt a sharp sense of dissatisfaction and, by his own admission, was only approaching his main work. In 1871-1872, he published his sixth novel with the provocative and symbolic title "Demons."
