The Blue Book a Hundred Years Later

«The Blue Book a Hundred Years Later» consists of five sections: «Money», «Love», «Deceit», «Failures» and «Amazing Events». In each of them, Mikhail Zoshchenko compares historical episodes and scenes from everyday life of the 1920s–1930s. Here, the plot is not important, but the recurring pattern of human behavior: some chase profit, some get tangled in feelings, some act out of petty malice, and some suffer defeat due to their own weakness or absurd circumstances. Because of this, the collection is perceived on two levels — as a humorous reading about everyday life and as a biting satire on what hardly changes in a person.
