Someone Else's Burden

«Someone Else's Burden» — a detective story about a series of attacks on the Khmelovsk–Osinsk highway, where the investigation quickly goes beyond the bounds of a typical criminal case and delves into fear, guilt, and the too high price of someone else's decisions. At the center of the plot is senior investigator Polina Kargopolova, for whom the dangerous case coincides with a difficult period in her family. Marina Kramer combines the police investigation with the personal drama of women who have to bear not only work and daily life but also the consequences of others' actions. The tension here is built not only on the search for criminals but also on how each decision changes the lives of the heroines.

On the road, where truck drivers are dying one after another, the investigation gets a rare chance: after another attack, a survivor is found. From this moment, the case turns into a race for people who know how to leave no traces. The investigator has to piece together the picture from fragments, work under pressure, and simultaneously keep her own life from falling apart. Meanwhile, the lines of Anfisa and Svetlana converge: each has her own pain, her own debts, and her own way of surviving, but they all turn out to be connected to one criminal story.
