After the death of her husband, Helen Granjan hardly leaves the closed world of her apartment and her sick daughter. Everything changes on the night when the girl falls ill and a neighbor-doctor, Henri Deberle, appears in the house. His visits are initially related to treatment, but gradually gratitude grows into deep attachment. The situation is complicated by the doctor's family, Jeanne's jealousy, and the constant pressure of the environment, where any personal choice immediately becomes the subject of others' conversations.
