The Blue Castle

«The Blue Castle» — a romantic and psychological novel about a woman who, at nearly thirty, decides to break free from a life where everything has long been decided by others. The main character, Valancy Stirling, lives in a respectable family and is accustomed to reproaches, control, and the imposed role of a «spinster». Her days are spent in the fictional Canadian Deerwood amidst endless rules, family pressure, and the fear of taking even a single step aside. Against this backdrop, the image of the Blue Castle becomes especially important — a space of inner freedom where she retreats in her dreams while real life feels cramped and alien. After receiving a letter from a doctor with a serious diagnosis, the heroine suddenly stops living according to others' instructions. She leaves the home where every day was scheduled by her relatives and chooses a path that just recently seemed unthinkable. At first, this decision appears as a personal rebellion, but gradually the family drama transforms into a story about the right to one's own life, where freedom begins with small things but changes a great deal.
