Faulkner

A Victorian novel about love, wine, and the choice of fate. Having made a fatal mistake, cavalry captain Rupert Faulkner is tormented by guilt and loses the will to live — but regains it when he meets six-year-old Elizabeth mourning her parents in a village cemetery. The inner strength, humility, and kindness of the girl impress Faulkner so much that he adopts the orphan and from then on lives for her. Years later, Elizabeth develops feelings for the young aristocrat Gerard Neville, who, like her guardian, is haunted by the ghosts of the past. The mystery that binds the fates of the two men will inevitably be revealed, and the young woman will have to make a terrible choice and decide whose side she is on.
