The novel «A Wizard of Earthsea» by Ursula K. Le Guin was first published in 1968 and has since become an immortal classic not only of fantasy but of all literature of the 20th century.
It is the story of Ged, the son of a poor blacksmith, who discovers his magical gift and goes to study at a school of wizardry. Competing with another student, he conjures a terrible Shadow — and although he manages to banish it, it continues to haunt him even after his education is complete.
Eventually, Ged seeks advice from his mentor Ogion, who teaches him not to run from fear, but to face it: for darkness is as much a part of us as light.
