The main characters are also different — a young Moscow schoolgirl Nika Ratmanova and Mikhail Polunin, a mature man with a background of participation in World War II and forced emigration… What unites them is the necessity of moral choice in difficult life circumstances and the desire to "live truthfully," which is so characteristic of the heroes of great Russian literature. "Cimmerian Summer" is Moscow, Leningrad, Crimea, and the Urals of the 70s, with stunning descriptions of the atmosphere, everyday life, and the characters' traits, caught in a family conflict, the roots of which lie in the events of the Great Patriotic War, but are, in essence, eternal — that very "tear of a child" of Dostoevsky, which breaks the established prosperous life and puts the heroes before an inevitable choice that determines the future… "Southern Cross" is Argentina, the prairie, the ocean, the jungles of Uruguay — as a backdrop to the events occurring in the "Russian colony" of Buenos Aires, which gathered emigrants from different eras from Russia — a distant and unforgettable Motherland. In addition, the narrative includes a detective plot of searching for a Nazi criminal, and the main driving force of the main character's development is nostalgia.
