Avdotya Yakovlevna Panaeva met with the most famous Russian writers for many years. Among her guests were Belinsky, Turgenev, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Goncharov, Dobrolyubov, Chernyshevsky, Saltykov-Shchedrin, Ostrovsky, and many others. Panaeva's memoirs are a dive into the life of society of that time and those people who shaped the worldview of the era. This edition is complemented by an introductory article, notes, and a postscript by Korney Ivanovich Chukovsky, who called Avdotya Yakovlevna's "Memories" one of the most interesting books.
