Easter Stories

The genre of Easter stories – unlike that of Christmas stories – is perhaps a unique phenomenon in world culture; it is characteristic only of Russia and Russian Orthodoxy. The main difference between an Easter story and the 'fairy tale' quality, the miraculousness, and the festivity of Christmas stories is an attempt at a deeper understanding of oneself, an attempt to analyze one’s soul, its readiness to receive the good news of the Resurrection of Christ, an attempt to understand how ready the soul itself is to resurrect, to rise from sin to a new, transformed life.
