White Chief. Quarteron

In «White Chief», the events center around a young buffalo hunter from the vicinity of San Ildefonso. His independence and bravery attract the attention of the daughter of a wealthy landowner, along with it — the hostility of the garrison officers and local aristocrats. Rivalry, envy, and the struggle against the arbitrariness of those accustomed to impunity come to the forefront. «Quarteron» moves the action to Louisiana. A young Englishman falls in love with Aurora, a girl whose dependent status makes this union almost impossible. Their story unfolds against the backdrop of slave laws, self-serving intrigues, and open human trafficking, where feelings become a challenge to the social order.
