«Game Store» announced the localization of a new fun game from Scorpion Masqué, which delighted us with "Cool Peak" and "Turing Machine". This time, the focus is on TAG TEAM («Two on Two»).
The game's setting resembles a mix of secret martial arts and retro arcade machines from the 90s: a mysterious tournament, fighters with cloaks and eyes burning with fire, and minimal explanations. It sounds grandiose, but upon closer inspection, it turns out to be a well-crafted fighting game with a twist of deck-building duel.
«Two on Two» combines the mechanics of autobattler and deck building, with one interesting detail — the deck is not shuffled. This is no joke: no card shufflers, just you, the cards, and your memory. Add a card — and keep in mind what comes next. A nice touch, this is what makes the game engaging.
Gameplay is built on duels (or 2 on 2 matches), where you select two fighters, combine their abilities, and try to deal damage to your opponent in the most spectacular way possible. What's nice is that the game doesn't turn into a puzzle, but you still need to engage your brain. And if you play casually with younger relatives, it can also be enjoyable just for laughs.
The atmosphere confidently carries the label of old-school arcade. Clearly made with love for retro, but without descending into parody. The mechanics of the game resonate with Challengers (which actually turned out to be not so bad), but here everything is narrowed down to an intimate duo.
Game duration: from 10 minutes
