Ivan Aivazovsky. The Great Painter of the Sea

The book tells about the life and work of the outstanding painter Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky (1817–1900). The creative genius of the master is embodied in more than 6000 paintings, most of which are dedicated to the sea. “Creator of fierce storms and charming beauty of the serene sea,” Aivazovsky, like no one else, sang “water with its extraordinary beauties” — his brush was skilled in portraying dramatic images of shipwrecks and storms as well as poetic landscapes of the elegiac sea. The artist made a significant contribution to the development of battle painting, dedicating many works to naval battles that glorified the Russian navy.
A separate chapter of the book is devoted to Aivazovsky's favorite place — Crimea, where the artist lived a long productive life and created an entire gallery of paintings with stunning Crimean views.
