Brilliant Poets of the Silver Age

Anna Akhmatova and Marina Tsvetaeva, whose stars flared on the horizon of Russian poetry at the beginning of the last century, will forever be symbols of the Silver Age for us. But in their shadow, there are others, equally important figures of women poets for the national literature.

The feminine face of the Silver Age includes Zinaida Gippius, one of the outstanding representatives of the Symbolist movement, and Mira Lokhvitskaya, whom researchers consider the founder of Russian "women's" poetry. The sister of Mira, the brilliant writer and favorite of Nicholas II, Nadezhda Teffi, also published her own book of poetry, and alongside Tsvetaeva, the name Sofia Parnok – the "Russian Sappho," a poetess with a complex personal and creative fate – is forever inscribed in history. The poems of Poliksena Solovyeva, the daughter of historian S. M. Solovyev and one of the most talented "forgotten women" of the Silver Age, are also included in our book.
