Musical Literature of Foreign Countries. Volume 1

The present first volume of the textbook on musical literature of foreign countries represents a new author's version, carried out under the general editorship of Prof. E. M. Tsaryova by the teachers of the Academic Music College at the Moscow Conservatory named after P. I. Tchaikovsky – I. V. Okhalova and E. D. Kuznetsova, replacing the first volume of "Musical Literature of Foreign Countries" (author – B. C. Galatskaya) created several decades ago.
This textbook provides a more comprehensive coverage of the life and works of J. S. Bach and G. F. Handel, includes new materials, and in the introductory chapter dedicated to the musical culture of the Baroque era, essential terms from subjects that were absent from school programs (polyphony, musical form, etc.) are introduced and explained. The book is equipped with a large number of musical examples and an Appendix that includes works by composers of the Baroque era – C. Monteverdi, H. Purcell, A. Scarlatti, and F. Couperin.
