The first volume of the work by a well-known Polish historian and the governor of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria within Austria-Hungary is dedicated to outlining events from the birth of the Polish state to the partitions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the late 18th century. By analyzing archival documents and critically reflecting on numerous works by other scholars, the author impartially presents historical facts, allowing an understanding of the deep processes taking place at that time not only in Poland but throughout Europe, as well as realizing the reasons for many events of today.
