Summer of 1916. While a bloody war rages on the fronts, a different kind of danger is brewing in the Russian North. In Arkhangelsk and Murmansk, where a strategic railway is being built, among the tens of thousands of prisoners of war, German agents are hiding. They were captured not by chance: their task is to gather secret information, organize escapes, prepare sabotage, and strike from within at the Russian rear. The task of uncovering the enemy network has been entrusted to State Counselor Alexei Lykov. It is not enough to simply catch the spies; the enemy's communication channels must be revealed. The traces lead to the port, camps, police departments, and to the point where three states converge at the polar border. Lykov will have to act quickly and cautiously: the enemy is intelligent, disciplined, and knows how to hide. And the price of failure is too high - the strategic road, maritime transportation, and the security of the entire Russian North will be at risk.
