Before you is the first book of the trilogy about the legendary Kyiv prince Svyatoslav Igorevich. The trilogy is a detailed biography of the prince and a broad panorama of events in the 10th century — a turning point era on the eve of the Baptism of Rus, when the state was engaged in a tense struggle for a place among the strongest powers of the early Middle Ages. On the pages of the novel, the complex relationships of Rus with Byzantium, Khazaria, Bulgaria, and other states of that time come to life. According to Mikhail Zadornov, the authors created "a very honest and proper image of Svyatoslav as a true patriot and wise ruler who united the Slavs." The first book is dedicated to Svyatoslav's youth — his coming of age and education, the formation of character and qualities that allowed him to enter history as a great warrior and wise ruler.
