Theory and Practice of Classical Chinese Medicine. Volume 1. Fundamental Principles

The book opens a series of educational and reference materials "Theory and Practice of Classical Chinese Medicine". Both authors – Khalmurad Upur and Denis Dubrovkin – are professors, doctors of medical sciences, well-known in Russia for their books on Chinese medicine. This volume consists of several sections. The first part explains the rules for reading and writing terms in Chinese medicine, provides a detailed history of the development of Chinese medicine with biographies of outstanding physicians and descriptions of the most important writings. The theoretical section examines in detail the main philosophical concepts of Chinese medicine – Yin-Yang, Five Elements Wu-xing, the physiology of "zang-fu" organs, twelve channels, vital forces "qi", theories "jing-qi-shen", "wei-yin-qi-xue", theories of pathogenesis "xie-qi", "shan-han", "wei-qi-yin-xue". The practical section discusses in detail the methods of diagnosis according to the classical scheme of questioning, examination, diagnosis by pulse and tongue. The classification of diseases is carried out according to the most common system of "eight syndromes" (ba gan bian zheng). At the end of this volume, an outline of the grammar of classical Chinese written language is provided with examples from canonical works. The book is intended for specialist doctors, as well as for anyone interested in non-drug methods of treatment, Eastern medicine, and the culture of China.
