Invited by friends, the young and lovely Catherine Morland comes to visit the seaside town of Bath. For the first time, leaving her numerous relatives for a long period, Catherine initially suffers from loneliness, but soon the attention of the girl is drawn to the mysterious Mr. Tilney, who lives with his father, sister, and older brother in a gloomy gothic family estate known as Northanger Abbey. A romantically inclined Catherine vividly imagines that the walls of the abbey hold a dreadful secret… The first of the works prepared for publication by Jane Austen was published only after the author's death, but since then the novel has been reissued multiple times, adapted for film twice, and rightly occupies a place among the outstanding works of English literature. In this edition, "Northanger Abbey" is published for the first time in a new translation.
