Rabbi Moses ben Maimon (Maimonides, 1138–1204) — the greatest Jewish sage of the post-Talmudic era: legislator, philosopher, scholar, and physician. His code Mishneh Torah («Repetition of the Teaching») is one of the most important works of Jewish tradition. In the most extensive of his works, Maimonides summarizes and systematizes the Talmudic tradition and presents the entirety of Jewish religious law — halakha — in an accessible form. The fourth book of Mishneh Torah, «Women», addresses a range of topics related to Jewish family law. The book includes «Laws of Marriage», «Laws of Divorce», «Laws of Levirate Marriage and Halitzah», «Laws of the Virgin-Maid», «Laws of Sota». Published in Russian for the first time in full, in an accurate modern translation and with detailed commentary.
