Book of Psalms (Tehillim)

Tehillim ("Psalms of David", lit. "Songs of Praise") is the first book of the third section of the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) - the Writings. It contains 150 psalms, which are further divided into five books. According to the Talmud, Tehillim were written by ten different authors, but the final editing of all the psalms was completed by King David. Most of the psalms are hymns that praise God's commandments, glory, and providence. The psalms are one of the most revered books of the Tanakh by Jews, and they are included in both private prayers and synagogue liturgy. Since the early Middle Ages, the psalms have had a tremendous influence on European literature and art. The new Russian translation of Tehillim has been carried out in accordance with the understanding of the text by classical Jewish commentators.
