Tanya. Likutei Amarim (Collection of Sayings). Book of the Average

«Tanya», or «Likutei Amarim» («Collection of Sayings») — the central work of the leader of the Hasidim in the Russian Empire and the founder of the Chabad movement Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Lyady, also known as the Alter Rebbe («Old Rebbe»). This book is the foundation of the teachings of Lubavitch Hasidism.

«Tanya», first published in 1796–1797, is the most important historical artifact of Russian Jewry. This book has survived hundreds of reprints and has been translated into many languages. It is rightly considered one of the most important works of Jewish literature.

A new Russian translation of the book «Tanya» is accompanied by detailed notes, an extensive glossary explaining the key terms of Kabbalah and Hasidism, and a comprehensive reference apparatus. The first volume of this multi-volume edition includes the first part of this work — «Book of the Average», including the text in the original language.
