Jane Eyre

The orphaned girl Jane Eyre, raised in a boarding school for poor girls, becomes a governess at the estate of the mysterious Mr. Rochester. Thus begins one of the most famous romantic stories of the 19th century. Outwardly austere and deceitful from within, the social society of England was not welcoming to quiet orphans, so young Jane must resist prejudices and conventions. The artist Evgenia Melnikova saw in the characters of the novel not only participants in a love drama but also representatives of an era when women had to defend their right to independence, while men considered tenderness a weakness.
