The Steppe

This book contains selected works of the classic of Russian literature Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860–1904): the novella "The Steppe" and the stories "Oversalted", "Melancholy", "The Defenseless Creature". All of them are characterized by deep psychological insight, subtle humor, and sharp irony. The particular attention to character details, characteristic of Chekhov, was masterfully captured by the artist Anatoly Slepkov: his illustrations convey the unique atmosphere of Chekhov's prose and help to better understand the images of the heroes of the great classic.
