Crime and Punishment

The novel "Crime and Punishment" is a sample of psychological and socio-philosophical prose. The main character, student Rodion Raskolnikov, devises a murder and robbery. His motives are, on the one hand, clear: he is poor and desperately in need of money; on the other hand, he is driven not by a thirst for enrichment, but by the thought of the selectness and superiority of some people over others. Is it possible to internally justify a crime, and what punishment awaits those who dare to transgress social and moral laws? — these questions create the drama of the novel and keep the reader in suspense until the end. Expressive illustrations for the novel were created by artist Dementy Shmarinov, a master at conveying the most complex psychological characteristics of the characters.
