The book includes essays by Joseph Brodsky (1940-1996) dedicated to Russian writers and poets: Anna Akhmatova, Osip Mandelstam, Andrei Platonov, and other masters of the 20th century. These texts were written by the author in English and published in 1986 in New York in the collection "Less Than One," which was awarded the National Book Critics Circle Award.
