Heavy Sand

The plot centers on the story of Yakov and Rachel, their marriage and life in a small Ukrainian town. Through the fate of one family, the novel shows how revolution, World War I, civil war, industrialization, and the rise of anti-Semitism enter everyday life and change it forever. The book contains many бытовых details, family scenes, and clashes with the reality of the time. Gradually, the personal story becomes part of a larger tragedy related to the persecution of the Jewish population during the years of Nazi occupation. It is a novel about love and fidelity, about lineage and memory, about human resistance to evil.
