The Teacher from Seville

Graduate of the pedagogical institute Lali Morales travels from Seville to a remote mountain village to work at a local school. She believes that education and instilling a sense of self-worth in children will open the way to a better future for them. Her ideals are shared by her colleague Juana, but with the onset of the Civil War, such beliefs become a crime: the new regime deprives the friends of the right to teach.

Thirty years later, a stranger appears on Lali's doorstep. She is searching for Juana, whose trail went cold in a military prison in Malaga. To help the girl, the former teacher will have to resurrect in her memory the trials that forever changed her fate.

The novel by José Antonio Lucero, which became a literary phenomenon in Spain, is a poignant saga of love, freedom, and fidelity to one's calling.
