The Captain's Daughter

«Cherish your honor from a young age»: it is with these words that one of the most famous works of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin begins – «The Captain's Daughter». This historical novel-story was first published in 1836 and became the last lifetime edition of the great writer. Young nobleman Pyotr Grinyov goes to serve in the Belogorsk fortress, where he finds himself at the epicenter of the Cossack uprising led by Yemelyan Pugachev. Caught between a rock and a hard place, the young man must make a difficult choice between duty and personal feelings. The novel explores themes of honor and loyalty. Pushkin masterfully recreates the atmosphere of that time, vividly depicting the morals and characters of the people experiencing a truly historical event.
