Timur Kibirnov is a well-known conceptual poet, translator, and prose writer, winner of the 'Big Book' prize. 'Lada, or Joy' is his first novel.

The mid-2000s, carefree summer holidays at the dacha. At a roadside shashlik place, dreamy schoolgirl Liza Kharchievnikova and her dad picked up a dog, which, of course, was not approved by strict Liza's mom. Liza, a fan of Slavic fantasy, named her new friend Lada. The summer flew by unnoticed, and it was time to part, as there was no question of taking Lada to the city. So Lada ended up in the care of the neighbor, Alexandra Yegorovna; however, sociable and friendly Lada quickly made acquaintances with the whole village of Kolduny. Many trials fell on the brave and curious Lada, but together with her new friends – the kind-hearted Yegorovna, the cheerful alcoholic Zhorik, and the business-minded and resourceful Margarita Sergevna – our heroine withstood them with honor.
