Humorous Stories

The first steps in Russian literature by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860—1904) were made under the pseudonyms Antosha Chekhonte and «The Man Without a Spleen» as an author of humorous stories and feuilletons, which were published in humorous Moscow magazines «Budilnik», «Zritel», and others, as well as in St. Petersburg humorous weeklies «Oskolki», «Strekoza», and later included in the first books of the budding author. It is precisely the stories and feuilletons from Chekhov's early books — «Shalost», «Tales of Melpomene», «Colorful Stories» — that are included in this book, revealing the humorous talent of the world-renowned writer.
