Welcome to Swinton-on-Sea – the book capital of Scotland, where the number of bookstores exceeds the number of residents. In "Summer of Hopes," we meet Ann Webster – the owner of the cozy boutique "Vintage and Couture," where not just...
clothes are sold, but the stories of the women who wore them.
No one knows that Ann herself has a secret. Even two. The first: at night, she transforms into Poppy Delacroix – the author of quite explicit romance novels. The second: in the window of her shop hangs an antique wedding dress with a sign saying "Not for sale." This dress is a witness to her own tragedy. Many years ago, she was supposed to walk down the aisle in it, but the groom never appeared.
Now, 25 years later, the one who broke her heart, Ray, returns. He is reviving the old estate and stirring up the ashes of past feelings. At the same time, a publishing house offers Ann to write a book about that very dress. This offer prompts her to start an investigation. Who did the dress belong to before her? Why was it rejected by Jackie Kennedy herself? And what tragedy lies behind the coat of arms found in an old chest?
The search will lead Ann to archives, reveal secrets of the London high society of the 50s, and the fate of one of the oldest residents of the town. Meanwhile, she will have to deal with her own life: a daughter who is getting married and an ex-husband Colin, who seems to still love her.
