Bridget Jones's Diary

The main character is a single thirty-year-old woman who works in publishing. In her free time (and even in the office), she tries to manage her personal life. Unprejudiced, sincere, simple-hearted, impractical, and naive (sometimes to the point of foolishness), she wants little joys but doesn't want to lose her freedom. Rather, she wants to lose it but is not ready to pay such a high price. The book is an antidepressant: the reconciliatory ending does not let one feel down and lifts the reader's spirits. A significant role in this is played by the English sense of humor, brilliantly demonstrated by the author.
